A park commissioner’s primary function is to provide governance and policy direction for the park district, which includes: setting strategic goals, establishing policies for operations, and overseeing finances and major projects. Commissioners are elected or appointed to represent the community, oversee the executive director and staff, and ensure the district is managed in the community’s best interests.
